‘A gamechanger for the region’ – South Kerry gets the go-ahead for a new greenway

Simply in time for us to start out planning our summer time staycations.

The Supreme Courtroom has rejected appeals made towards the event of the South Kerry Greenway, making it doable for growth to start on the multi-million venture that’s “set to transform the South Kerry region”.

In line with the Irish Impartial, work is now anticipated to start on the venture this yr and develop what is predicted to be “the most effective greenways within the nation”.

Sharing the information on Twitter, TD for Kerry Brendan Griffin wrote:

FANTASTIC NEWS FOR KERRY!! Inexperienced Gentle for the Greenway! The South Kerry Greenway has been given the go forward by the Supreme Courtroom!!

Chatting with RTÉ, Mr Griffin mentioned the Supreme Courtroom’s choice was  “massively optimistic information for Kerry individuals, companies and communities.” He added that:

We now have seen the success of greenway tasks throughout Eire, and the financial, social and tourism advantages they bring about to native companies, cities and villages. This venture will breathe new life into communities alongside the route, and that is due, largely, to the laborious work, effort and time of many native individuals and teams.

The proposed Greenway will run alongside a disused rail line, spanning 32 kilometres between Glenbeigh and Reenard on the Iveragh Peninsula. In line with Kerry County Council the greenway will run parallel to the Ring of Kerry –  “an iconic and internationally famend vacationer route well-liked with cyclists and with breath-taking surroundings”.

A fantastic outcome for walkers and cyclists of South Kerry and past.
