East Belfast DUP have introduced that Cllr Sammy Douglas has been co-opted to Belfast Metropolis Council following the current election of David Brooks MLA to the NI Meeting.
he DUP mentioned Sammy is “no stranger to elected politics” having served as an MLA for east Belfast between 2011 – 2017.
He was first elected to the Meeting in 2011 and re-elected in 2016.
Throughout his time on the Meeting he sat on numerous committees together with Justice.
Cllr Douglas lives in east Belfast and was previously a self-employed, social and financial regeneration advisor to East Belfast Partnership in addition to an ex-Neighborhood Advisor to First Minister Peter Robinson, MLA.
For over twenty years, Cllr Douglas was on the forefront of regeneration within the east Belfast space.
He has in depth expertise, a lot of it on a voluntary foundation, of working at a neighborhood and area-wide degree with neighborhood, voluntary and church teams.
Previously with the Worldwide Fund for Eire, Cllr Douglas helped to advertise and foster social economic system and job creation tasks that attracted round £50 million of funding for initiatives in internal and outer East Belfast.
He’s additionally a founding member and Challenge Champion of the Connswater Neighborhood Greenway, a £32 million Linear Park funding.
In November 2002, Sammy was awarded an MBE for Companies to the Neighborhood and a Commendation for Excellent Management by the US Division of Commerce.
Sammy was elected to the Northern Eire Meeting in Could 2011 and sits on departmental committees for Employment and Studying and Social Improvement.
